#216Movies: Girl

I read the book upon which this movie is based in high school or college -- I remember it being hard to find until the advent of Amazon, and it had always been on my reading list since Sassy had been publishing excerpts.  I remember it being deeper and darker and more involved than this piece of shit movie.  Granted, it is not "a fab mix of Clueless and She's All That", but it is not true to the book as I remember it.  It is a little bit of a dark comedy and if I weren't expecting something else, I may have liked it.  It is NOT bubbly.

That said, and since I have already dated myself by referring to Sassy and remember the birth of Amazon (remember when it was just an online bookstore??--Before debit cards existed I used to print out orders and MAIL THEM CHECKS), this movie was released in 1998 when I graduated from high school so the music and the fashion is like a flashback to me.

I still have Blake Nelson's book on my shelf and as I've been decluttering I've been debating if I should hang on to it, read it again, get it on kindle and now I wonder if it was really as good as I thought it was.  Or if I would even relate to it anymore, now that it's been 20 years.
